Life by the Coast
An Expedition from Hoi An to Hueoverview
This 5-day photography tour is an immersive journey into the dynamic heart of Vietnam’s coastal and fishing culture. We trace the shoreline north, deliberately focusing on the daily lives and working traditions of the region.
You’ll explore a variety of rich environments—pre-dawn boat launches, the vibrant energy of sunrise fish markets, tranquil lagoon villages, and culturally rich artisan workshops—each with its own pace and visual language. The itinerary balances high-impact, dramatic locations with slower, intimate moments, always anchored in real, lived scenes.
Designed for photographers drawn to candid and documentary-style storytelling, this workshop emphasizes rhythm, timing, and light. Whether capturing fishermen casting nets at dawn, the chaos of market life, or the quiet patience of lagoon workers, each day brings opportunities to refine your vision while staying genuinely present to the world around you. Guided sessions, honest feedback, and a sustained focus on observation will help you build both technical skill and creative depth.

PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY
5-day ITINERARY
River Nets and Village Light
We begin before sunrise with a boat ride along the Thu Bon River. Fishermen work their square nets while the first light glows across the water, giving us layered compositions of silhouettes, ripples, and reflections. Back in Hoi An’s Old Town, we shift to street photography, working with color, textures, and daily rhythms of the market.
We drive to Tam Thanh, where the pace slows and rice fields replace city alleys. Farmers lead buffalo, tend fields, and work in the fading light — an opportunity to practice timing and framing in open landscapes.
Market Chaos to Lagoon Stillness
We head out early to a bustling fish market at sunrise, a burst of energy in the first light. Boats unload fresh catch, women squat with baskets, and voices rise in the salty air. We photograph movement, chaos, and details — wet hands, packed baskets, and trading gestures under a glowing sky.
The road north takes us along the coast toward Lang Co. We pause at viewpoints before reaching the lagoon, just in time for sunset. Fishermen return in slender boats, casting nets against still water and soft golden light.
The Life of the Lagoons
We wake in a lagoon village as fishermen return from night excursions. Wooden boats drift in, nets heavy, children waiting by the shore. It’s a chance to work close, capturing human moments in soft morning light.
We focus entirely on Lang Co Lagoon, where long nets, water textures, and quiet houses on stilts create layered scenes. We finish with sunset silhouettes of fishermen working against vast horizons.
Slow Rythms and Artisan Hands
Our day begins at sunrise on the Phu Loc lagoon. We work with slower rhythms now — fishermen paddling home, soft light spilling across the water. The focus is on patience, waiting for gestures, and refining composition.
We drive to Hue and step into a different setting: a conical hat workshop. Artisans bend palm leaves, stitch patterns, and shape hats under diffused indoor light. It’s a shift to controlled, intimate portraits with strong cultural context.
Final Dawn: Fishing the Horizon
On our final morning, we return to the coast for sunrise with the fishermen. Nets stretch into the waves, figures move against the rising sun, and we capture one last series of strong silhouettes and candid moments. We hold a closing photo review, sharing final selections and reflections on the journey. We hold a closing photo review at our hotel, sharing final selections and reflections on the journey.
After lunch, we transfer back to Danang and Hoi An.
